Before They Were Famous
Sarah was born in London, England and grew up in Sydney, Australia. She went to school at The McDonald College in Sydney where she passionately studied ballet. Sarah boarded at the prestigious school for four years and after academic studies were finished each day, she says she would often dance until nine or 10 each night. After being told by the ballet teacher that she was too tall and would never make it as a ballerina, she changed direction and began modelling.
Career Highlights
Sarah enjoyed a high-profile modelling career. She succeeded Eva Herzigová as the Wonderbra model and appeared in its international ad campaign. The blonde beauty has also appeared in ads for Revlon and Ralph Lauren, as well as the 1999 and 2003 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues. In 2001, Sarah signed on as brand ambassador for Bonds clothing and is credited as a key part of the Aussie brand’s ongoing success. In late 2006 Sarah filled in on TV morning show Today for four months when Jessica Rowe went on maternity leave. Sarah returned to the show as a guest host a year later to raise awareness about breast cancer as she is a patron of Australia’s National Breast Cancer Foundation. The former model is heavily involved in assisting not-for-profit arts and charitable bodies. She was appointed International Ambassador of The Australian Ballet in 2004 and joined The Australian Ballet Board of Directors two years later. In 2008, Sarah was named the ambassador for Murdoch Children’s Research Institute – the organisation established in 1986 by husband Lachlan’s grandmother, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch. In 2009, Sarah successfully replaced designer Jodhi Meares as the host of Australia's Next Top Model.
Famous Quotes
‘I still dream at night that I’m dancing. I go to see the ballet now and I feel like jumping up with them, but it would be horrific – I can't touch my toes.’
