Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Stars: Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush, Gemma Ward. Rated: TBA
Say ‘ahoy’ to the fourth swashbuckling instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean. Both Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are out of the picture, but main man Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is back in all his black-eyed glory. Making up for lost time is the beautiful Angelica (Penélope Cruz), a woman from Jack’s past who tickles his fancy but ruffles his feathers at the same time. Is her love real, or is she a ruthless con artist who’s using him so she can find the fabled Fountain of Youth?
To make things more complicated, Angelica is the daughter of the fearsome Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and forces the lovelorn buccaneer aboard her father’s boat, the Queen Anne’s Revenge – but that’s when the adventure really begins. The 3D escapade has all the dramatic sword fights and action scenes we know and love, and throws in some new foes – including zombies and a gang of unfriendly mermaids led by a familiar face, Aussie model-turned-actress Gemma Ward, who plays Tamara, Queen of the Mermaids.
